What is Alkaline Water – Its Benefits & Side Effects

Many medical professionals suggest that having the proper pH balance is crucial for keeping us healthy.

And because so many individuals now experience acidity and illnesses associated to acidity, we also think that the proper pH balance is crucial.

Let's first define pH value so that we may better understand the intricate puzzle of acidic and alkaline nature.

Potential Hydrogen, or pH, is a measurement of the concentration of hydrogen ions.
On a scale from 0 to 14, the pH value of a solution indicates how basic or acidic it is. A pH value of 7 is regarded as neutral, a pH value below 7 as acidic, and a pH value over 7 as basic or alkaline.

For instance, if the level is 1, the solution is extremely acidic, and if it is 14, the solution is extremely alkaline. The pH of alkaline water often falls between 8 and 9.
Alkaline Water: What Is It?

All alkaline water is is water that has a pH level greater than 7.

Alkaline water is beneficial for those with excess acidity, according to several medical professionals and specialists in this sector, since it aids in neutralizing excess acid in the body.

This neutralizing impact lowers acidity and aids in preventing and managing a number of conditions like heart disease, digestive issues, arthritis, a lack of immunity, etc. that are brought on by high acid reflux.
Alkaline water has a variety of advantages. All of these questions and more will be answered straight away.

But first, let's discover how to determine whether the water you drink is alkaline or not.
How to Check the Water's Alkalinity

It is fairly simple to determine the alkalinity of water or any other solution.

All you need is a pH strip or a piece of litmus paper.

Using a pH strip, you can quickly determine the pH level of water. Just dunk the pH strip into the solution, let it sit for a time, and then check the litmus paper's colour against the established pH colour chart to determine the pH level.

If the pH is 7 or lower, take note of it and add alkaline water to your supply. Water should have a pH of 8 or 9 after alkalization.

A pH kit is simple to get online. A pH colour chart and pH test strips are included in the pH kit.

To determine the pH level, consult the colour pH level chart provided above.
Side Effects of Alkaline Water?

Alkaline water is typically regarded as harmless, however switching to alkaline water may have certain common adverse effects.

Headaches, runny noses, exhaustion, and softer, darker faeces are some of these side effects. However, these adverse effects are also a good indication that your body is detoxifying itself.

Once your body adjusts to alkaline water, which can take anywhere from a few days to two to three weeks, these negative effects will go away.

The disruption of the body's natural pH caused by excessive alkalinity can lead to a condition known as metabolic alkalosis, which produces confusion, nausea, vomiting, hand tremors, and tingling in the hands and feet.
Is Safe Alkaline Water?

A pH of 8 or 9 indicates alkaline water that is undoubtedly safe. The assertions that alkaline water has good health advantages are the only thing that many health experts take issue with. There is no debate over the safety of alkaline water.

This is due to the fact that there is currently insufficient scientific data to back up claims that drinking alkaline water has health benefits.

Since it contains natural minerals, drinking natural alkaline water (water that naturally flows through rocks, like springs, and takes up minerals, increasing its alkaline level) is generally regarded as harmless.

However, manufactured alkaline water should be used with caution since it may only contain little amounts of important minerals; a higher pH does not always imply more minerals.
